TikTok has decided to impose restrictions preventing users under the age of 18 from using beauty filters.
The company stated that soon, users below 18 will be restricted from utilizing effects that enhance beauty and attractiveness. This change aims to protect young individuals from potential mental health issues.
Beauty filters are applied to photos or real-time videos to enhance physical appearance. Common effects of such filters include smoothing skin texture, enlarging eyes, or slimming the nose. TikTok’s new face filter, called “Bold Glamour,” can transform anyone into a supermodel.
However, the company clarified that the age restriction will not apply to filters designed purely for entertainment purposes.
