The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will remain closed on Monday, November 9, following the federal government’s announcement of a public holiday to mark the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, observed as Iqbal Day.
According to an official announcement, the central bank will suspend its operations on November 9 in accordance with the federal government’s decision to declare a public holiday across the country.
The closure will also affect commercial banks operating across Pakistan, as they will observe the public holiday alongside the State Bank.
Banks to Remain Closed for Three Consecutive Days
With November 7 and 8 falling on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, banks will already be closed over the weekend.
The additional public holiday on Monday, November 9, means that banking services across the country will remain suspended for three consecutive days.
Customers are advised to plan their banking transactions accordingly, particularly those requiring branch visits, cheque processing and other in-person services.
Provinces Also Announce Iqbal Day Holiday
Following the federal government’s announcement, provincial governments have also declared a public holiday on November 9 to commemorate Iqbal Day.
The day marks the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the poet-philosopher whose ideas and vision played a significant role in shaping the concept of a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent.
Iqbal Day is observed every year on November 9 to pay tribute to his literary, philosophical and intellectual contributions.
