A rare variety of Miyazaki mango has been sold for the equivalent of more than Rs612,000 per kilogram in Pakistan’s currency, far exceeding the price of conventional mangoes. The premium fruit was reportedly cultivated by an Indian farmer and purchased by a trader in Surat.
While most mangoes are sold for Rs400 to Rs500 per kilogram, the Miyazaki variety is considered one of the world’s most expensive due to its rarity, appearance, and cultivation requirements.
Indian Farmer Sells Premium Mango Variety
According to reports, Indian farmer Sandeep Chaudhary sold the Miyazaki mangoes for approximately 211,000 Indian rupees per kilogram, equivalent to around Rs612,000 in Pakistani currency.
A single kilogram consisted of four mangoes, which were purchased by Surat-based businessman Praveen Gupta.
The farmer said the buyer had been in contact with him since last year and expressed satisfaction with the sale.
Why Is the Miyazaki Mango So Expensive?
The Miyazaki mango, originally associated with Japan’s Miyazaki Prefecture, is known for its bright red appearance and is sometimes referred to as the “Egg of the Sun.”
It is valued for its sweetness, limited production, and premium quality. The fruit is also reported to contain higher levels of vitamin A, vitamin C, beta-carotene, and antioxidants compared with many common mango varieties.
Its combination of rarity, specialized cultivation, and strong market demand has made it one of the world’s highest-priced mango varieties.
