Pakistan Television’s legendary children’s drama ‘Ainak Wala Jin’ has become the center of controversy after its upcoming animated reboot drew strong criticism from the show’s original creator and writer, Hafeez Tahir.
Hafeez Tahir claimed that the animated adaptation was developed without his permission, expressing disappointment over what he described as the unauthorized use of his original concept.
The veteran writer said Ainak Wala Jin was a cultural phenomenon that captivated an entire generation, with children across Pakistan eagerly waiting for each new episode during its original run.
The controversy erupted after PTV released preview clips of the animated reboot featuring digitally recreated versions of the show’s iconic characters.
Reacting to the teaser, Hafeez Tahir said he was deeply shocked that his creative work had been reused and transformed—reportedly with the help of artificial intelligence (AI)—without his consent. He also criticized the animation, calling its overall quality disappointing.
The writer revealed that he is considering legal action, saying he is reviewing his options over the alleged unauthorized use of his intellectual property.
The issue has also gained traction on social media. Actor Umair Rana publicly advised Hafeez Tahir to pursue the matter through legal channels and raise it with the Artists Collective Trust (ACT).
Many users echoed support for the veteran writer, arguing that intellectual property rights in Pakistan are often overlooked and should be better protected. Some also called for accountability if the claims prove to be valid.
