SHANGLA: Shangla Faces Prolonged Power Outages, Residents Demand Relief
Shangla is experiencing severe power outages lasting over 16 hours, with durations extending up to 20 hours during rainfall. The prolonged outages are disrupting daily life, causing hardships for residents, and affecting government and private offices.
The people of Shangla are demanding the establishment of powerhouses on local streams to meet the region’s electricity needs. They accuse WAPDA of discriminatory treatment, citing two years of prolonged power outages that have made life unbearable.
Despite generating 72 megawatts of electricity from the Khan Khwar Dam and 12-13 megawatts from the Kroraha Hydropower Project, Shangla residents are struggling to access electricity. The region only requires 7 megawatts of electricity, but the power outages and load shedding have become unbearable.
The Shangla Election Committee is urged to play an active role in ensuring the region receives its rightful share of electricity and to unite all political parties in this effort. The people of Shangla are no longer willing to tolerate this situation and demand immediate action to resolve the power crisis.
