ISLAMABAD: Telenor Pakistan has completed what it described as the world’s largest one-go migration of its entire prepaid and postpaid customer base, moving 90 million users to a next-generation charging and billing system (CBS) as part of its broader digital transformation strategy.

The migration involved shifting all provisioned customers to a cloud-native CBS hosted on a private cloud, designed to deliver higher service resilience, geo-redundancy, and scalability. According to the company, the new platform will support the rollout of next-generation digital services, faster product launches, and seamless system integration through more than 100 application programming interfaces (APIs).

The large-scale transition was carried out without service disruption and involved close coordination between cross-functional teams from Telenor Pakistan, Huawei, original equipment manufacturers, and multiple technology partners.

Strengthening digital and 5G-ready infrastructure

Awais Vohra, chief executive officer of Telenor Pakistan, said the successful migration represents a critical milestone in the company’s technology roadmap.

He said the upgraded billing and charging platform strengthens the operator’s core systems, providing a scalable foundation for new digital services, quicker response to customer needs, and readiness for future technologies, including 5G.

Huawei Pakistan CEO Ethan Sun said the project reflects the long-standing partnership between the two companies, adding that the new CBS platform enhances operational efficiency while preparing the network for next-generation connectivity.

Supporting Pakistan’s digital ecosystem

Telenor Pakistan said the deployment positions the company to play a stronger role in Pakistan’s evolving digital ecosystem by enabling advanced digital services and improving operational agility.

With its cloud-based, future-ready infrastructure now in place, the operator said it is better equipped to support national digitalisation efforts and meet growing demand for data-driven services across the country.
