TAXILA: A petition has been filed in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Taxila Mirza Muhammad Azam under Section 22-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure, seeking directions for registration of an FIR over alleged blasphemous content broadcast by Geo News.

The petition was filed by Murad Ali Shah, Senior Advocate High Court, through Altaf Hussain Advocate High Court, after Wah Cantt police allegedly did not register an FIR on his complaint.

According to the petition, the applicant claimed that a Geo News broadcast contained material allegedly offensive to the sanctity of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which hurt the sentiments of Muslims.

The petitioner said he had submitted a written application to the SHO of Wah Cantt Police Station, requesting legal action against the channel’s owners, officials and relevant staff under applicable laws. He claimed police had not taken action or registered a case so far.

Local lawyers and public circles have expressed concern over the matter and called for legal proceedings through the proper judicial process.
