SWAT: A regional consultative workshop on implementing the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Policy 2026–2030 in Malakand Division was held in Saidu Sharif, bringing together government officials and disaster management experts to identify regional priorities and preparedness measures.
Commissioner Malakand Division Masood Ahmed attended the workshop as chief guest. Lead Consultant Falak Naz, Additional Deputy Commissioners from districts across the division, officials from various government departments and other experts also participated.
District-Level Disaster Priorities Discussed
The workshop focused on identifying district and regional priorities, practical disaster risk reduction measures, institutional responsibilities, coordination mechanisms and resource requirements for inclusion in the five-year implementation plan of the provincial DRR policy.
Participants discussed potential disaster risks facing their respective districts, existing preparedness arrangements and gaps that could affect emergency response.
They also presented proposals aimed at improving preparedness before disasters, strengthening timely response mechanisms and reducing loss of life and property.
Commissioner Calls for Stronger Coordination
Commissioner Masood Ahmed stressed the need for practical measures to strengthen disaster risk management and improve coordination among relevant institutions.
He said advance planning, an integrated approach and effective participation by government departments were essential to reducing risks associated with natural disasters and improving emergency response capacity.
The workshop also emphasized incorporating district-specific disaster risk reduction measures into the provincial implementation plan, taking into account the geographical and climatic conditions of different areas across Malakand Division.
