SWAT: The temporary profiling and registration of unprofiled non-custom-paid (NCP) vehicles in Swat will begin on August 11, with authorities setting September 30, 2026, as the deadline for owners to complete the process.
The exercise is being carried out on the directives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home and Tribal Affairs Department. Three profiling centres have been established in Swat at Mingora Flyover, Ghaligay and Bab Matta, where eligible NCP vehicles will be temporarily registered and issued temporary registration numbers.
48,000 Vehicles Already Profiled
According to a circular issued by the district administration, vehicle owners have been urged to complete profiling within the stipulated period.
Officials said the Excise and Taxation Department had already profiled around 48,000 vehicles in Swat. The same exercise is also being launched in other districts of Malakand Division and the merged districts.
Authorities said around 150,000 NCP vehicles had previously been registered across different districts of Malakand Division and issued temporary registration numbers.
Officials estimate that between 200,000 and 300,000 NCP vehicles are currently operating across Swat, other parts of Malakand Division and Bajaur. A significant number of these vehicles are reportedly brought into the region through different routes from Afghanistan.
Authorities Urge Owners to Meet Deadline
Despite the earlier registration drive, a considerable number of NCP vehicles are still operating without registration numbers or profiling, prompting the government to expand the temporary registration exercise.
According to the district administration, the profiling initiative is intended to help prevent crime and other untoward incidents and address the potential misuse of unprofiled vehicles.
Authorities have urged owners of all unprofiled NCP vehicles in Swat to visit the designated profiling points and complete the process before the September 30 deadline.
