SWAT: A delegation of the Swat Qaumi Jirga met Malakand Division Commissioner Masood Ahmad and Syed Fida Hassan Shah, Regional Police Officer Malakand, at the Commissioner Office in Saidu Sharif to discuss law and order and public issues.
District Police Officer Swat Mohammad Umar Khan, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), SP CTD and officials from relevant departments were also present during the meeting.
Members of the jirga raised concerns regarding the security situation in Swat, potential threats to peace, drug trafficking, profiteering, land grabbing and unannounced electricity and gas load-shedding. They urged authorities to take effective administrative and legal measures to address these issues.
Assurances from administration
RPO Syed Fida Hassan Shah said that lasting peace in Malakand Division had been achieved through public sacrifices and sustained efforts of law enforcement agencies. He stated that action against criminal elements would continue without discrimination and that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
He emphasized that cooperation between the public and the jirga would further strengthen policing efforts and said law enforcement agencies were fully prepared to deal with emerging challenges.
Commissioner Masood Ahmad said public trust was the foundation of state institutions and highlighted the importance of coordination between the administration and citizens. He assured the delegation that the issues raised would be addressed through joint efforts of relevant departments.
The commissioner noted that the law and order situation in Malakand Division remained satisfactory due to coordinated efforts of the administration, police and the public.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the commissioner and the RPO appreciated the constructive role of the Swat Qaumi Jirga and reiterated their commitment to providing full administrative and legal cooperation.
