SWAT — Police in Swat have arrested a woman and her second husband for allegedly killing her three-year-old daughter and burying the body in the Amankot area. Officials identified the victim as Tamanna, who they said had become an obstacle to the suspects’ criminal activities.
SP Investigation Swat Mushtaq Khan, accompanied by SP Upper Swat Shaukat Khan and SHO Khwazakhela Police Station Muhammad Ayaz, told reporters that the accused, Inamullah son of Sharifzada from Olander Shangla, convinced the woman, Uzra, to divorce her first husband before marrying her and involving her in his criminal network.
Police said the child was strangled in a hotel room in Mingora before the body was wrapped in cloth and buried in the hills of Amankot. The suspects were initially arrested in a motorcycle theft case after CCTV footage linked them to stolen vehicles. Fourteen motorcycles were recovered, and during interrogation, the pair confessed to the murder. Acting on their disclosure, police recovered the child’s body and shifted it to hospital for post-mortem examination.
Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway and strict legal action will be taken against the accused.
Psychologist Saba Syed commented that such incidents reflect deep social decay and mental stress, noting that in some cases individuals begin to view their own children as obstacles due to personal pressures. She called for stronger measures against drug abuse, particularly the rising use of “ice,” and urged the establishment of rehabilitation and counseling centers.
Residents of Swat expressed grief and outrage over the incident, urging authorities to take immediate steps to curb drug use and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
