SWAT: Qaami Taron Jirga, Babuzai Swat, has called on the government to urgently announce a sustainable relief package for the business community affected by the recent floods, enabling them to rebuild their livelihoods and stand on their feet again.
In a statement issued by a spokesperson on Thursday, the Jirga said the floods had not only destroyed homes but had severely hit small traders, shopkeepers, and local business owners whose capital and lifelong savings were washed away.
The Jirga stressed that the government must introduce a targeted business recovery package that includes interest-free loans, entrepreneurial training, financial support for the reconstruction of shops, and immediate compensation. It further demanded the establishment of a direct relief mechanism that avoids banking complications, ensuring that assistance reaches victims without delay.
The statement also called for a comprehensive business impact survey in Swat and other affected areas to identify genuine victims and guarantee fair distribution of aid.
The Jirga warned that any government delay could deepen the economic hardships of the business community, trigger social problems, and ultimately create wider instability in society.
Qaami Taron Jirga, Babuzai Swat, appealed to the government to move beyond the distribution of rations and tents, and instead launch a comprehensive business rehabilitation plan that restores the dignity and livelihoods of the affected people
