Swat administration orders daily monitoring of street children after key meeting

SWAT: The district administration in Swat has ordered daily monitoring of street children in Mingora and surrounding areas following a Child Protection Committee meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Saleem Jan Marwat.

The meeting, held at the district conference room, reviewed child safety measures and strategies to address challenges including street children and begging. Officials said the decisions aim to strengthen enforcement and rehabilitation efforts across the district.

Participants included Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief & Human Rights) Naimatullah, Child Protection Officer Ehsanullah, SSP Lower Swat Ghulam Sadiq, the Tehsil Khatib, Senior Probation Officer, Superintendent District Jail Swat, District Health Officer Swat, and representatives of relevant departments.

During the briefing, officials outlined ongoing child protection initiatives and future plans to improve coordination among departments.

Deputy Commissioner Marwat directed that a committee comprising the Child Protection Officer, Social Welfare Officers and other relevant officials ensure daily field monitoring of children found in vulnerable conditions, particularly those involved in begging.

He instructed that children identified in such situations be taken into protective custody in accordance with the law and presented before the Child Protection Court, where necessary, for further proceedings.

Officials said the district administration will utilise available resources to support rehabilitation and guidance programmes aimed at reintegrating affected children into safer environments.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on coordinated action among law enforcement, social welfare and health departments to strengthen child safety mechanisms in Swat.
