Immigration procedures at Sust Dry Port have been resumed.
Recent protests at Sust Dry Port temporarily disrupted immigration and cross-border trade operations, causing significant hardships not only for travelers and traders but also for laborers. Pakistani students and Chinese nationals traveling through the Pak-China border have been particularly affected by these disruptions.
Authorities Clarify False Social Media Claims
The district administration issued a clarification addressing rumors and false information circulating on social media. Officials stated that the temporary suspension of immigration services this morning prompted some Chinese nationals to march towards the traders’ protest camp to express their concerns. Although the situation got tense briefly, timely and effective police intervention prevented any clashes between the groups.
Contrary to false social media claims, no Chinese nationals were arrested. The administration categorically rejected these rumors as baseless and misleading. Authorities have initiated investigations against those spreading misinformation and warned that legal action will also be taken accordingly.
Immigration and Clearance Resume
Meanwhile, negotiations between the protesters and the government continued. As a result of an agreement reached by the Traders’ Committee today, Sust Dry Port Immigration services have been restored. The clearance process for Pakistani students stuck along with the Chinese nationals has also resumed.
The district administration appealed to the public to avoid trusting unverified news circulating on social media and to rely solely on information from official sources.
Importance of Peaceful Dialogue and Pakistan-China Friendship
Officials stressed that closing the international trade corridor and disrupting border trade due to internal issues not only harms the national economy but also damages Pakistan’s international reputation. Incidents like the stranding of Chinese travelers could strain the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China, which is detrimental to Pakistan’s interests.
The enduring Pakistan-China friendship should not be jeopardized for personal interests. The administration emphasized that peaceful dialogue, not protests, is the only viable solution to the ongoing issues.
