DARWIN: Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc and Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz were involved in a heated exchange during the Darwin Test, with footage of the incident circulating on social media.
The confrontation occurred during Starc’s 21st over when Mehidy played a shot towards point and ran through the central protected area of the pitch while attempting to complete the run.
Umpire Kumar Dharmasena intervened and warned Mehidy against running on the protected section of the pitch. Mehidy responded that Starc had moved into his running path.
Starc then expressed his displeasure and told Mehidy to stay away from the protected area of the pitch and from the bowler’s follow-through path.
Mehidy replied that he had not seen Starc. Starc responded with a sarcastic remark, saying, “You’re not in Bangladesh now.”
Mehidy explained that he had been watching the ball and therefore did not see Starc’s follow-through.
The exchange quickly attracted attention online, with the video prompting discussion among cricket fans over the on-field confrontation and the importance of protecting the central pitch area during a Test match.
