Veteran Bollywood actress Soni Razdan has joined actress Dia Mirza in criticising the use of firecrackers during Diwali, describing the practice as harmful to public health and tantamount to being anti-national.
In a post shared on Instagram, Soni Razdan expressed concern over the air pollution caused by firecrackers during the Hindu festival of Diwali.
She highlighted the impact of deteriorating air quality on children’s health, saying parents of young children understand how pollution affects their well-being and how frequently illnesses force them to miss school.
Razdan said that under such circumstances, setting off even a single firecracker during Diwali was, in her view, against life, health and the interests of the country.
Concluding her message, the actress emphasised that health is a choice people make for themselves and their children.
Earlier, actress Dia Mirza had also shared an awareness video highlighting the harmful effects of bursting firecrackers during Diwali.
However, Mumbai’s civic administration removed her video from its social media platforms following objections from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Bombay High Court subsequently directed the civic administration to republish Mirza’s video.
