LAHORE, September 13: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced that he will unveil the next phase of PTI’s Punjab street movement in Lahore on Monday, while also visiting the family of a party worker who, according to Afridi, died after suffering burn injuries during an alleged police crackdown.
In a post on X, Afridi said he would visit the residence of PTI worker Ishtiaq Ahmed to offer condolences to his family. He alleged that the worker was injured during what he described as illegal raids and arrests targeting PTI activists in Lahore.
Afridi claimed that Ishtiaq Ahmed fell into a cauldron of hot oil during the alleged crackdown while preparations for Eid Milad-un-Nabi were under way and later died from his injuries.
The allegation has been made by the KP chief minister and was not independently verified in the material available to The Public Purview.
Punjab Street Movement Plan to Be Announced in Lahore
Afridi said he would announce PTI’s Punjab street movement strategy during his visit to Lahore.
The announcement comes days after PTI’s Punjab parliamentary leadership decided to launch a street movement in the province and invited Afridi to lead the campaign. Party leaders have also expressed concern over what they describe as an intensified crackdown on workers in Punjab.
The KP chief minister strongly criticised the Punjab government over the treatment of PTI workers, alleging that party activists were being subjected to raids, arrests and excessive force.
His planned Lahore visit comes as PTI prepares for a broader protest campaign, including a long march planned for September 27. Party leaders have said the Punjab mobilisation is intended to form part of that wider political strategy.
Afridi has recently been taking part in PTI’s street mobilisation efforts outside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including rallies in Sindh, where he has repeatedly called for greater public participation in the party’s protest campaign.
