Islamabad — Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) lifted its nationwide ban on domestic gas connections, enabling 300,000 new installations this year. Managing Director Aamir Tufail shared the update during a media briefing and confirmed that LNG approvals have also resumed.
This move marks a significant shift in Pakistan’s energy supply strategy. Tufail stated that SNGPL gas connections will expand further next year, with a target of 600,000 annual installations. He emphasized that the initiative will help households access affordable energy while reducing reliance on costly alternatives.
To streamline the process, SNGPL launched a dedicated helpline (0800) and created a central monitoring unit at its head office. In addition, regional monitoring teams now operate across the country to ensure timely action on customer applications and improve transparency.
According to Tufail, 245,000 demand notices have already reached consumers. Customers who deposited the required fees will receive priority. Meanwhile, those seeking faster installation can opt to pay an urgent fee for early connection.
He explained that LNG offers a more economical option than LPG cylinders, which cost nearly 30% more. “Although LNG is relatively expensive, wise usage prevents it from becoming a financial burden,” he said.
The company set the LNG price at Rs. 3,200 per MMBTU. Moreover, SNGPL successfully reduced its Unaccounted for Gas (UFG) losses to just 5%, showing a significant improvement compared to previous years.
Tufail concluded by reaffirming the company’s commitment to fair distribution, consumer convenience, and efficient energy delivery. As a result, the expansion of SNGPL gas connections reflects a renewed focus on household energy access, infrastructure growth, and national resilience.
