LOWER KURRAM – At least six people were shot dead on Wednesday when unknown assailants ambushed a passenger vehicle in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Kurram district, police said.
The attack took place in the Ahmad Khan Kale area as the vehicle was travelling from Para Chamkani to Sadda. The motive for the shooting remains unclear. Police said a heavy contingent was deployed to the site and an investigation has been launched.
The bodies were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Sadda, for medico-legal formalities.
National Assembly member Hameed Hussain strongly condemned the incident, terming it “incomprehensible” in an otherwise peaceful area like Ahmad Khan Kale. He alleged the attack was part of an organised conspiracy to spread unrest and urged residents to support peace efforts.
Separately, leaders of the Turi Bangash tribes denounced the ambush and called on the government to ensure a thorough investigation and strict action against those involved.
The Kurram region has long struggled with tribal conflicts and land disputes, which claimed at least 130 lives last year. Although a ceasefire was reached in January and a year-long peace accord was signed in July between the Lower Kurram and Sadda tribes, sporadic violence continues to threaten stability.
