Karachi — The Sindh government has decided to introduce a digital attendance system for teachers and school staff using facial recognition and geo-fencing technology, aimed at improving monitoring and discipline in schools.

The initiative, directed by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, will apply to both teaching and non-teaching staff across the province. Officials say the system is designed to enhance transparency and ensure regular attendance in educational institutions.

Technology-based attendance monitoring

Under the plan, employees will be registered through the FRAMES system, with mandatory verification of all staff members. Attendance will be recorded through a mobile application that uses facial recognition, while geo-fencing will ensure that check-ins are linked to specific school locations.

Authorities said the system will also include a real-time dashboard, enabling officials to monitor attendance on a daily basis.

Implementation and oversight

A dedicated committee has been formed to oversee implementation, comprising data analysts, HRMIS officials, district and tehsil officers, and a representative of the application developer for technical support.

Officials added that teachers’ biometric records and profiles have been linked to their respective schools to support the system’s functionality.

Objective and timeline

Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said the initiative aims to strengthen discipline in the education sector and improve oversight through the use of technology.

He added that the system is expected to contribute to better teaching standards by ensuring staff presence and accountability. The mobile application is likely to be formally launched after Eid.
