The Sindh government has reinstated the Saturday weekly holiday for all public and private schools across the province, reversing its earlier decision that required schools to remain open six days a week.
To make up for the lost instructional time, the government has decided to extend daily teaching hours by one hour, allowing schools to maintain the academic calendar without reducing classroom learning.
Decision linked to energy-saving measures
According to provincial authorities, the move is part of the government’s ongoing austerity and energy conservation measures. Officials said the revised schedule is intended to reduce operational costs while ensuring that educational standards are not compromised.
The additional hour of daily instruction is expected to compensate for the Saturday closure and keep academic activities on track.
Reversal of earlier policy
The latest decision marks a reversal of the policy introduced on August 1, when the Sindh government had directed all public and private schools to operate six days a week, eliminating the Saturday holiday.
That notification applied to educational institutions across the province following the end of summer vacations.
Education minister issues clarification
Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah later shared a clarification on social media regarding the revised school schedule.
The updated policy confirms that schools across Sindh will observe Saturday as a weekly holiday, while daily school hours will be increased by one hour to ensure the required teaching time is completed.
