KARACHI: Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi has condemned Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s remarks concerning martyrs and urged the JUI-F chief to withdraw his words and apologise to the nation and the families of those who lost their lives in service to the country.
Hashmi made the remarks during a press conference at Governor House Karachi alongside Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi and members of the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee.
Nehal Hashmi has served as Sindh governor since March 2026.
The governor said members of Pakistan’s armed forces, police personnel and civilians who sacrificed their lives for the country were martyrs and deserved national respect.
He expressed hope that Fazlur Rehman regretted his remarks and would withdraw them.
“Those who laid down their lives for the homeland must be honoured,” Hashmi said, adding that retracting the statement would help address the concerns of martyrs’ families.
Tahir Ashrafi Highlights Sacrifices of Security Personnel
Speaking at the press conference, Tahir Ashrafi said the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee was advancing efforts aimed at strengthening peace, national unity and support for Pakistan’s security institutions.
He said soldiers did not stand guard at the country’s borders merely for salaries but were motivated by their duty to protect Pakistan and its people.
Ashrafi stressed that the sacrifices of security personnel should remain above political disputes.
Maulana Tahir Hussain Mashhadi also called for legal action against individuals who issue statements against the armed forces.
The speakers urged political leaders to exercise restraint and avoid remarks that could hurt the families of martyrs or deepen political divisions.
