ISLAMABAD: Shifa International Hospitals Limited has achieved Joint Commission International (JCI) Academic Medical Center accreditation, becoming one of fewer than 70 healthcare institutions worldwide to hold the designation.

The accreditation recognizes institutions that meet international standards in clinical care, medical education, and human-subject research. The achievement places Shifa International among a select group of hospitals globally and marks a significant development for Pakistan’s healthcare and medical education sectors.

According to Shifa International, the accreditation followed a comprehensive evaluation process that assessed patient care, academic programs, research governance, quality assurance, and safety standards.

The hospital stated that it achieved full compliance across all evaluated standards, while the SAFER risk assessment framework identified no outstanding risk concerns during the review process.

Recognition For Clinical Care, Education And Research

JCI Academic Medical Center accreditation is awarded to healthcare institutions that integrate patient care, medical training, and research under internationally recognized quality and safety standards.

Unlike conventional healthcare facilities, academic medical centers combine treatment services with the education of healthcare professionals and the conduct of scientific research.

According to the institution, the accreditation reflects its role in delivering healthcare services while supporting the training of physicians, nurses, and researchers.

Significance For Pakistan’s Healthcare Sector

The development adds to Pakistan’s presence within the global network of JCI-accredited academic medical centers.

Shifa International noted that the accreditation strengthens opportunities for international academic collaboration, medical research partnerships, and professional training programs.

Healthcare experts say internationally recognized accreditation frameworks help standardize quality, patient safety, governance, and research practices across healthcare institutions.

Long-Term Institutional Development

The accreditation follows years of investment in healthcare infrastructure, clinical governance, education, and research programs.

Shifa International said the recognition reflects the efforts of its healthcare professionals, faculty members, researchers, and administrative teams in meeting international standards.

The institution added that it will continue focusing on patient care, medical education, and research as part of its long-term development strategy.
