KARACHI: Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi said the team’s balance is expected to improve with the return of Fakhar Zaman after a heavy defeat to Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the National Bank Stadium on Thursday.

Speaking after the match, Shaheen pointed to the absence of key players as a major factor behind the team’s struggles, adding that injuries have disrupted combinations early in the tournament. He said the side remains confident of a turnaround as the competition progresses.

“I believe our team balance will improve once Fakhar returns,” he said, noting that another player was also unavailable due to injury. He added that such challenges are part of the game and teams must adapt accordingly.

Shaheen acknowledged Islamabad United’s strong performance, crediting their bowling and fielding efforts. He also noted that while the pitch offered extra bounce, the opposition executed their plans more effectively.

Qalandars struggle with bat

Opting to bat first, Lahore Qalandars were bowled out for 100 in 18.3 overs. Sikandar Raza top-scored with 25, while Haseebullah Khan and Asif Ali contributed 19 and 15 respectively. The rest of the batting lineup failed to build momentum.

Islamabad United’s bowlers dominated, with Chris Green taking three wickets, while Imad Wasim, Richard Gleeson and Shadab Khan picked up two each.

United secure comfortable win

In reply, Islamabad United chased down the target comfortably, reaching 101 for one in just 10.2 overs. Devon Conway led the innings with an unbeaten 59, supported by Mohammad Faiq’s quick 34.

The result leaves Lahore Qalandars looking to regroup in the early phase of the PSL season, with the return of key players seen as crucial for improving performance.
