ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani has confirmed that a luxury vehicle worth Rs90 million was purchased for the chairman of the Senate using funds from the Senate’s official budget.
The vehicle has already arrived at the Senate Secretariat in Islamabad, according to sources familiar with the matter. Gilani said the purchase had been approved earlier and was funded through savings from the Senate’s previous fiscal budget.
Speaking to Express News, Gilani confirmed the procurement and clarified that the order for the vehicle had been placed in May last year, well before it was delivered.
He added that once the car arrived, he explored the possibility of returning it due to the country’s current economic situation. However, officials informed him that the vehicle had already been delivered and processed.
The purchase has drawn attention amid ongoing economic challenges in Pakistan, where government spending and public-sector expenditures continue to face scrutiny.
Officials at the Senate Secretariat have not issued further details regarding the procurement process or specifications of the vehicle.
