Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar chaired a high-level meeting in Larkana on Thursday to review security arrangements and the law and order situation across the province, especially in preparation for the upcoming death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP), other IGPs, DIGs and SSPs attended the meeting where the DIGs briefed the participants about the security measures being implemented in the Larkana and Sukkur ranges.
The home minister stressed that security across Sindh would remain on high alert until further notice with strict instructions that no carelessness or negligence would be tolerated.
“Security needs to be coordinated and effective, especially when thousands of people are expected to visit Garhi Khuda Bakhsh from all over the country,” Lanjar said.
He also directed the authorities to immediately remove encroachments along the routes leading to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh and Naudero to ensure smooth movement of participants. Intelligence should be strengthened in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, Naudero and surrounding areas.
Measures against criminal activity
During the meeting, the Home Minister also addressed the recent martyrdom of two policemen in a dacoit attack in Shikarpur’s katcha area. Lanjar and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed their grief over the incident and directed the police to take immediate action against the culprits.
The Chief Minister directed DIG Larkana to arrest the accused and submit a detailed report on the matter. He further called for the use of all available government machinery to restore peace in the area.
Echoing these sentiments, Lanjar directed SSPs in Shikarpur and Kashmore to ensure systematic action against criminals and their middlemen. “The ongoing targeted operation against robbers must be intensified and criminal gangs should be completely broken,” Lanjar said.
Benazir Bhutto’s death anniversary, which is commemorated every year on December 27, draws thousands of supporters to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, her final resting place, requiring heightened security and extensive preparations.
