Newly elected Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Syed Amjad Ali Shah has said Pakistan’s political parties have failed to establish a strong national presence over the past 79 years, pledging that the legal community will continue to defend the Constitution, democracy and the rule of law.

He made these remarks during his visit to the Abbottabad Press Club, where he was welcomed by Press Club President Sardar Naveed Alam, members of the Press Club, representatives of the Abbottabad Union of Journalists and local lawyers.

Former district bar presidents Qazi Azhar and Malik Amjad were also present.

SCBA President Pledges to Defend the Constitution

Addressing journalists and lawyers, Shah said the Supreme Court Bar Association would play an active role in protecting constitutional supremacy, strengthening democracy and safeguarding the interests of the legal community.

He said lawyers would raise their voices whenever constitutional principles were compromised within the judiciary or legislature.

“We will not pursue the agenda of any government or political party,” Shah said, adding that fulfilling the trust placed in him by lawyers across Pakistan, including those in the Hazara region, would remain a priority.

He also pledged to work towards improving lawyers’ welfare, addressing the challenges they face and ensuring that the public has access to affordable and speedy justice.

Shah maintained that the legal community had consistently supported the supremacy of the Constitution and the law and had never endorsed unconstitutional actions.

Calls for End to Governor’s Rule in KP

Commenting on Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid rising terrorism, Shah said terrorism must be eliminated from the province while a government holding a public mandate should be restored.

He urged the federal government to play its role in ensuring that Governor’s Rule in the province ends as soon as possible.

Abbottabad Press Club Welcomes SCBA President

Sardar Naveed Alam, president of the Abbottabad Press Club, welcomed Shah on his first visit to the club and described his election as SCBA president as a matter of pride.

Alam said the Press Club’s doors had always remained open to the legal and journalistic communities and would continue to do so in the future.
