RIYADH: At least three people were killed and 10 others injured in two aerial attacks targeting King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and the Shaybah oilfield in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, October 21, according to Saudi authorities.

The Saudi Ministry of Energy said a drone targeting the Shaybah oilfield, near the United Arab Emirates border, was intercepted and destroyed by air defence systems. Falling debris killed two foreign nationals from the Philippines and Nepal, while Pakistani and Indian nationals were among those injured.

The ministry said operations at the oilfield remained unaffected. It did not identify who launched the drone.

In a separate incident, an aerial attack at King Fahd International Airport in the eastern city of Dammam killed one person and injured eight others on Wednesday evening.

According to the Saudi aviation authority, the injured were immediately transferred to hospitals, while officials began assessing the damage caused by the attack.

Authorities did not specify the nature of the attack on the airport or identify those responsible.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition said air defence systems had intercepted and destroyed four drones in the kingdom’s eastern region.

The incidents come amid heightened regional tensions and reports of repeated missile attacks against Saudi airports by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement. However, Saudi authorities have not attributed responsibility for the latest attacks.
