Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that Saudi Arabia will not permit its airspace, territory, or waters to be used for any military action against Iran, according to Saudi and international media reports.
The assurance was conveyed during a telephone conversation between the two leaders as regional tensions rise following increased US military deployments in the Middle East, including the arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group. The developments have heightened concerns about the risk of a wider confrontation involving Iran.
According to Reuters, the Saudi crown prince reaffirmed Riyadh’s position that it would neither participate in nor facilitate any military operation against Iran, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s preference for de-escalation and diplomatic engagement.
Saudi Arabia, Gulf States Urge US Restraint as Washington Seeks Iran Strike Options
Iranian state media reported that President Pezeshkian welcomed Saudi Arabia’s position and emphasized the importance of dialogue and regional cooperation to prevent instability. The two leaders discussed the broader security situation in the Middle East and the need to avoid actions that could lead to conflict.
Saudi Arabia and Iran restored diplomatic relations in 2023 after years of rivalry, a move widely seen as easing regional tensions. Since then, Riyadh has consistently stressed political solutions over military involvement, particularly in conflicts that could destabilize the Gulf region.
Analysts say Saudi Arabia’s refusal to allow the use of its airspace or territory for military operations against Iran reflects a broader regional reluctance to be drawn into another major conflict and could complicate operational planning amid heightened military activity in the region.
