Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson delivered a powerful innings against the West Indies, matching records held by Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh during the second T20 International.
Samson scored an explosive 82 off just 41 deliveries, smashing nine fours and four sixes to help India post an imposing total of 249 for five.
Despite his impressive performance, India could not secure victory as the West Indies chased down the target to win the match by six wickets.
Samson reached his half-century in just 21 balls, equalling Virat Kohli’s record for the fastest fifty by an Indian batter against the West Indies in T20 Internationals.
India also recorded a remarkable powerplay performance, scoring 79 runs for the loss of one wicket. It was the team’s highest powerplay total against the West Indies in the format.
In another notable achievement, Samson equalled Yuvraj Singh’s record by registering his fifth T20I half-century at a strike rate of 200 or higher.
Suryakumar Yadav and Abhishek Sharma remain ahead in this category, with 13 and 12 such half-centuries respectively.
Although Samson’s aggressive batting helped India reach a formidable total, the West Indies’ successful chase ensured that his record-equalling performance came in a losing cause.
