Pind Dadan Khan (Mushtaq Raza) — A worsening sanitation crisis has made life unbearable for the people of Pind Dadan Khan. After the completion of the Railway Road, drains on both sides are overflowing with filth, while stagnant water near the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital and Government High School has turned into mosquito breeding grounds. Several students have already fallen ill with malaria and dengue.

During rainfall, the absence of a proper drainage system transforms the bus stand and nearby neighborhoods into large ponds. A sewerage scheme built at a cost of 45 million rupees now lies blocked with plastic bags and mud. This choking of drains has intensified the sanitation crisis, spreading foul odors and diseases across the area.

Adding to the distress, dust pollution from ongoing road construction is suffocating residents. Since water is not sprinkled during work on Jhelum Road, the entire town remains blanketed in dust throughout the day, causing throat, nasal, and respiratory illnesses among locals and shopkeepers.

Moreover, the city lacks public toilets. Men and women from surrounding areas — including Khewra, Golpur, Kora, Choran, Saroba, Tobha, Harnpur, and Duffer — visit for shopping and contribute millions to the local economy every month. Yet, no steps have been taken by the administration or traders’ association to provide basic sanitation facilities.

Residents have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Jhelum to take immediate notice and resolve this deepening sanitation crisis before it triggers a full-blown public health emergency.
