Samsung SDI secures first EV battery deal with Mercedes-Benz

SEOUL, April 20Samsung SDI has signed its first EV battery supply agreement with Mercedes-Benz, securing a multi-year deal to power the automaker’s next generation of electric vehicles.

The agreement strengthens supply chain ties in the rapidly expanding EV market, where automakers are locking in long-term battery partners to support production and meet growing global demand.

Batteries to power future Mercedes EV lineup

Samsung SDI said it will supply high-nickel NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese) batteries, known for higher energy density and improved driving range.

The batteries are expected to be used in upcoming Mercedes-Benz compact and mid-size electric SUVs and coupe models, forming part of the company’s future EV lineup.

Strategic move in competitive EV supply chain

The deal marks Samsung SDI’s first battery supply partnership with Mercedes-Benz, expanding its footprint among major global automakers.

Mercedes-Benz has been increasing efforts to secure stable battery sourcing as part of its long-term electrification strategy.

Samsung SDI did not disclose the size or value of the agreement.
