Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi could be postponed to 2027, according to a report by Bollywood Hungama. The film, previously titled Battle of Galwan, has reportedly faced delays linked to content-related concerns, making a release this year increasingly uncertain.
If the film is pushed to next year, Salman Khan could have two theatrical releases in 2027, with his untitled project directed by Vamshi Paidipally also expected to arrive in cinemas during the year.
Report Cites Content-Related Delays
According to the report, Maatrubhumi is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict between India and China. The film was renamed from Battle of Galwan earlier this year.
The report claims that the project’s release has been delayed due to concerns over its content and references to China following recent improvements in diplomatic relations between the two countries. No official statement confirming these claims has been issued by the filmmakers or relevant authorities.
2026 Release Still Possible, but Window Narrowing
The report says the filmmakers are still exploring the possibility of releasing the film in 2026, but securing a suitable release date has become increasingly difficult as the major festival windows have largely been booked.
Industry sources quoted in the report said the Dussehra holiday period in October could offer a potential release opportunity if the remaining issues are resolved in time.
Salman Khan Reportedly Avoids Box Office Clashes
According to the report, Salman Khan generally prefers not to schedule his films against other major releases and avoids unnecessary box office clashes.
The report also notes that Rajkummar Rao’s Raftaar and Emraan Hashmi and Genelia Deshmukh’s Gunmaaster G9 are expected to release around mid-October, although release schedules remain subject to change.
Two Salman Khan Films Could Arrive in 2027
If Maatrubhumi is postponed, Salman Khan could have two major releases in 2027, including his currently untitled film directed by Vamshi Paidipally, which also stars Nayanthara.
Neither Salman Khan nor the producers of Maatrubhumi have officially announced a revised release date.
