Saba Qamar faces legal petition over police uniform appearance during video shoot

Pakistani television star Saba Qamar has become the subject of legal proceedings after a petition was filed in a Lahore court alleging that she wore a police uniform without official authorisation during a video shoot.

The petition seeks the registration of a criminal case, arguing that the use of an official police uniform without prior permission violates existing rules governing the use of state symbols and attire. The matter surfaced at a time when Qamar is earning widespread acclaim for her lead role in the hit television drama Case No 9.

Court proceedings and allegations

The case was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Ilyas Rehan at a local court in Lahore following objections raised over a video circulating on social media. According to the petitioner, Wasim Zawar, the video shows Saba Qamar inside a dressing room wearing a police uniform bearing an SP-rank badge.

The petitioner argued that wearing such an outfit requires a formal no-objection certificate from the police authorities and claimed that no such permission had been obtained. He further told the court that he had approached the Old Anarkali police station earlier to seek action, but no case was registered.

After hearing preliminary arguments, the court adjourned the proceedings until January 14. No formal charge has yet been registered, and the matter remains under judicial consideration.

Drama continues to receive praise

The legal development comes amid the strong on-screen success of Case No 9, which airs on Geo Entertainment every Wednesday and Thursday. The drama has drawn attention for its sensitive and realistic portrayal of sexual violence, abuse of power, and the challenges faced by victims within the legal system.

In the series, Saba Qamar plays Sehar, a woman seeking justice against a powerful businessman portrayed by Faisal Qureshi. Her performance has been widely praised by viewers and critics alike.

Veteran actor Atiqa Odho publicly commended Qamar’s work, describing her performance as natural, emotionally controlled, and deeply impactful.

Production and themes

Produced by 7th Sky Entertainment, the drama is backed by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi, written by Shahzeb Khanzada and directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain.

Beyond its courtroom narrative, the series explores social pressure, victim-blaming, and the enduring cultural mindset summed up by the phrase “Log kya kahenge?”, making it one of the most discussed shows currently airing on Pakistani television.

As the court proceedings continue, both the legal outcome and the public response remain closely watched, with no official statement yet issued by Saba Qamar regarding the petition.
