ISLAMABAD, June 9: The Russian Embassy in Islamabad held an extraordinary press briefing on Tuesday to present Moscow’s position on recent developments in the Ukraine conflict, including a reported attack on a student dormitory and a pedagogical college in Starobelsk that Russian officials said killed 21 young people and injured more than 60 others.

Addressing Pakistani media representatives, Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev said the incident had prompted Moscow to adopt what he described as a new phase in its military operations. According to the ambassador, future actions will focus on decision-making centers, command posts and defence industry facilities in Ukraine.

The briefing was organized by the Russian Embassy to outline Russia’s assessment of recent security incidents and its planned response to developments on the ground.

Russia outlines planned military measures

Ambassador Khorev said Russian authorities viewed the Starobelsk attack as a serious escalation in the conflict. He stated that Moscow had decided to conduct military operations in a more systematic manner, targeting strategic facilities linked to Ukraine’s military infrastructure.

According to the Russian envoy, these measures would include strikes on what Russia considers key command and defence-industrial sites, including locations in Kyiv.

Concerns over nuclear facility and regional security

During the briefing, the ambassador also commented on recent incidents involving the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant and the nearby city of Energodar. He accused Ukrainian forces of carrying out attacks that, according to Russia, pose risks to regional security and critical infrastructure.

Khorev further referred to reported drone strikes in Yenakiyevo and Genichesk, as well as what he described as attempts to disrupt the upcoming St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Russian position on the conflict

The ambassador said Russia views these incidents as part of a broader pattern of actions affecting civilian infrastructure and security facilities in areas impacted by the war. He outlined Moscow’s position on the conflict and its assessment of recent military developments.

The briefing provided Pakistani media with an overview of Russia’s current stance on the war and its planned response to recent events.

The statements made during the briefing reflect the position of the Russian government. Ukrainian authorities have previously disputed a number of Russian claims regarding military operations and incidents related to the conflict.
