Islamabad (T.M Awan) — Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert P. Khorev has said that his country respects the sovereign right of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to develop bilateral relations and sign agreements in fields of mutual interest,

Addressing questions from journalists during a media briefing in Islamabad, the envoy stated: “Russia respects the sovereign right of two independent states to sign international treaties and develop bilateral relations in the fields of mutual interest.”

Responding to a question on remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump threatening to retake Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan, Ambassador Khorev condemned such statements, calling them “outdated colonial approaches.” He urged Washington to unfreeze the $10 billion in Afghan assets that, he stressed, “rightfully belong to the Afghan people.”

On Syria, Khorev confirmed that Moscow was in talks with the country’s interim government, while noting that Russia’s engagement with China was currently “at a historic high point.”

Clarifying Russia’s position on U.S.–Ukraine mining and energy agreements, the ambassador said they were “purely bilateral matters in which Moscow has no involvement.”

Turning to South Asia, he said Russia had quietly played a diplomatic role in helping de-escalate the recent Pakistan–India tensions. “Russia has always supported dialogue and restraint between Pakistan and India, and we continue to encourage peaceful solutions,” the envoy remarked.
