ISLAMABAD: More than Rs313 billion in housing loans have been approved under Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Programme to support affordable home construction, with housing finance approvals rising by 117% over the past two months, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The ministry said more than 53,100 housing applications have been approved since June 2026, with the total value of sanctioned loans exceeding Rs313 billion.
More than Rs45 billion in approved loans has also been disbursed, while loan disbursements have increased by 120%, according to the ministry.
Pakistan currently faces a housing shortage estimated at around 12 million units, while approximately 400,000 new homes are needed each year to meet demand.
The government expects the housing finance initiative to generate wider economic activity by supporting the construction sector and increasing demand for industries including cement and steel.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the programme could also contribute to job creation and encourage both domestic and foreign investment as housing and construction activity expands.
The increase in loan approvals and disbursements comes as the government seeks to improve access to housing finance and address the country’s growing housing requirements.
