ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled the Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package, a three-year initiative aimed at powering Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural growth through affordable electricity and economic revival. The program is designed to lower energy costs, boost production, and strengthen the country’s economic framework.

Three-year relief plan to begin in November 2025

The Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package will be implemented from November 2025 to October 2028. Announced during a high-level meeting with economic experts, industrialists, and representatives of the farming community, the plan offers a special tariff of Rs. 22.98 per unit — a major reduction from current rates of Rs. 34 per unit for industries and Rs. 38 for agricultural consumers.

The Prime Minister emphasized that this concessionary rate will not place any financial pressure on domestic consumers or other sectors. He also praised Energy Minister Sardar Awais Leghari and his team for developing a forward-looking policy to support production and employment.

Success of past relief measures

Highlighting the impact of earlier initiatives, Shehbaz Sharif recalled that last year’s winter electricity relief plan enabled industries and farmers to consume an additional 410 gigawatts of electricity. The increased supply helped factories stay operational, boosted exports, and generated new jobs across the country.

He said the new Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package builds on those results by offering long-term stability and affordability to key economic sectors.

From crisis to stability

The Prime Minister noted that Pakistan’s economy has moved from a period of crisis toward stability due to consistent reforms, fiscal discipline, and teamwork. “We have made difficult choices and are now witnessing encouraging results,” he said.

“Our vision is to make Pakistan economically self-sufficient through sustainable industrial and agricultural growth,” Shehbaz added.

Path to economic independence

According to the Prime Minister, initiatives like the Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package are crucial for reducing dependence on foreign loans and achieving long-term economic independence. He said such programs will empower farmers and manufacturers while strengthening the foundations of national progress.
