Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has emerged as the highest-paid footballer in the world in 2026, earning roughly twice as much as his long-time rival Lionel Messi.
According to Sportico’s list, Ronaldo’s total annual earnings are estimated at around $300 million, compared with approximately $150 million for Argentine star Messi.
Ronaldo is estimated to earn around $250 million from football, primarily through his career with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, while a further $50 million comes from endorsements, commercial ventures and other business activities.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has continued to expand his business empire alongside his football career, maintaining partnerships with major international brands and making investments across different sectors.
Messi, meanwhile, is estimated to earn around $75 million from football and another $75 million from commercial activities.
The Argentine superstar remains under contract with Inter Miami until 2028 and continues to generate significant income through endorsements and business ventures.
Both players have increasingly expanded their activities beyond football.
Messi has reportedly acquired full ownership of Spanish club UE Cornellà, while there has also been speculation that Ronaldo could potentially invest in Al Nassr.
The futures of both superstars in international football also remain a major talking point, with fans continuing to follow their careers both on and off the pitch.
While their football careers have kept them among the sport’s biggest names, Ronaldo’s estimated $300 million annual income currently gives him a substantial financial advantage over Messi.
