Authorities in Rawalpindi have introduced a juvenile driving permit allowing boys and girls aged 16 to legally operate motorcycles and scooters up to 125cc.

According to traffic police officials, the permit will only be issued after parental consent and requires a smart card or B-form for eligibility. Officials say the move aims to improve road safety awareness among young riders.

Testing and conditions for permit

Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam said applicants will have to pass both sign and road tests before receiving the permit. Those who qualify will be issued the driving permit on the spot.

The annual fee for the permit has been set between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, while helmet use has been made mandatory for all riders.

Safety rules and restrictions

Authorities added that the permit will be strictly limited to motorcycles and scooters up to 125cc. In cases of serious or repeated traffic violations, the permit may be cancelled.

Officials said the initiative is intended to promote traffic discipline among young riders and reduce road accidents through early training and regulation.
