Drone patrols reshape how Rawalpindi tackles traffic violations

2 Min Read

Rawalpindi has introduced a modern traffic monitoring system that uses drone technology and a wide network of surveillance cameras to manage violations in the city’s busiest zones.

Drone monitoring strengthens Rawalpindi’s traffic enforcement

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam told The Express Tribune that the new digital enforcement system will help traffic wardens respond quickly to violations detected through aerial and on-ground surveillance tools. He said the initiative represents a major shift toward technology-driven policing.

Authorities adopt zero-tolerance approach to high-risk violations

CTO Aslam highlighted that the traffic police are maintaining strict action against dangerous behaviors, including underage driving, riding motorcycles without helmets, and ignoring one-way traffic rules. He added that the objective is not simply to issue fines but to prevent accidents and protect commuters.

City expands camera network for real-time monitoring

Officials confirmed that more than 2,000 drone cameras have been installed across 359 locations, along with 15 additional cameras placed at the main entry and exit points of Rawalpindi. These devices track traffic flow, identify violations, and help authorities respond to hazardous driving.

Focus remains on life-threatening offences

Enforcement teams are prioritizing violations that pose immediate risks, such as using mobile phones while driving, riding motorcycles without helmets, and not wearing seatbelts. The administration believes that targeted action against these behaviours will significantly improve road safety.
