PESHAWAR — The Peshawar Press Club launched its Ramadan sports gala with a ceremony attended by journalists and provincial officials, as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Adviser for Sports and Youth Affairs Taj Muhammad Tarand announced financial support of Rs500,000 for the event.
The sports festival, organized for journalists during the holy month of Ramadan, will feature multiple indoor games aimed at promoting healthy activities and strengthening camaraderie within the media community.
Tarand attended the opening ceremony as chief guest and distributed sports kits among participating players. Speaking at the event, he said the provincial government would continue supporting sports initiatives for journalists and announced that additional funds would be considered in the upcoming provincial budget to promote such activities.
The event is being organized with the support of the Directorate General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Deputy Commissioner Peshawar.
Provincial Assembly member Laiq Zada and HOPE Director Muhammad Zubair Elahi also attended the ceremony along with a large number of journalists and office-bearers of the Peshawar Press Club.
Participants included Press Club President M. Riaz, Sports Committee Chairman Kashifuddin Syed, Vice President Zia-ul-Haq, General Secretary Alamgir Khan, Joint Secretary Gulzar Ahmad and Finance Secretary Irshad Ali. Several members of the governing body were also present.
According to organizers, sports kits were distributed to 270 players who will participate in the tournament.
Ten-day sports festival for journalists
The Ramadan sports gala includes six games: badminton, table tennis, snooker, carrom board, ludo and chess.
Competitions began on March 6 at the Peshawar Press Club and matches will be played daily from 9 p.m. throughout the holy month.
Organizers said the ten-day festival aims to encourage sportsmanship, teamwork and recreational engagement among journalists during Ramadan.
