An Indian court in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against actress Rakhi Sawant in connection with a suicide case dating back to 2010.
According to Indian media reports, the case relates to alleged derogatory remarks made about a man on Sawant’s television programme “Rakhi Ka Insaaf.” The man later died by suicide. The court has directed police to arrest Sawant and produce her before the court after she repeatedly failed to appear in the proceedings.
Warrant Issued After Repeated Absences
The warrant was issued on October 16 by an Additional District and Sessions Judge of the Fast Track Court, according to the reports.
Prosecutor Mridul Kant Srivastava said the next hearing in the case is scheduled for December 1.
The case concerns the death of Lakshman Ahirwar, a resident of the Hansari Prem Nagar area of Jhansi, who died on November 10, 2010.
Allegations Linked to Television Programme
Following Ahirwar’s death, his mother, Savitri, filed a case alleging that Sawant had used derogatory and inappropriate language about her son during an episode of her programme broadcast in October 2010.
According to the prosecution, Lakshman Ahirwar and his wife Anita had appeared on the programme in connection with marital differences.
The latest court order concerns Sawant’s repeated non-appearance in the case. The allegations remain subject to the legal proceedings.
