LAHORE, September 27 — Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Sunday directed all divisional superintendents to implement recommendations related to railway track safety by October 20 as part of measures to improve operational safety across the network.
Chairing a high-level meeting, the railways minister reviewed the condition of tracks, ongoing development projects, anti-encroachment operations and the financial performance of Pakistan Railways.
The Federal Government Inspector of Railways (FGIR) briefed the meeting on the condition of railway tracks and presented recommendations for necessary improvements.
Abbasi directed all divisional superintendents to ensure the recommendations were implemented within the October 20 deadline.
Rohri Junction upgrade due by December 25
The minister also ordered completion of the Rohri Junction upgradation project by December 25, while directing Pakistan Railways to dispose of all scrap lying within the railway system by December 31.
Taking notice of complaints about overloading at railway weighbridges, Abbasi ordered immediate action against violations.
The meeting also reviewed development projects underway across different railway divisions and took decisions aimed at ensuring their timely completion.
Pakistan Railways headquarters was directed to respond to demands and requirements received from the divisions within 72 hours.
Anti-encroachment drive to continue
Reviewing the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign, the minister assured railway employees of his support and directed officials not to yield to any pressure during operations against illegal occupation of railway land.
Abbasi said assistance from the National Accountability Bureau and other law-enforcement agencies was being sought to strengthen the anti-encroachment campaign.
He also directed officials not to change the rake of any train once it had been upgraded, saying upgraded trains should continue operating with their designated rakes.
Pakistan Railways earns Rs26 billion in first quarter
The minister expressed satisfaction over Pakistan Railways earning Rs26 billion during the first quarter and appreciated the administration for its performance.
He directed railway authorities to maintain progress on operational improvements while ensuring that safety recommendations and development projects were completed within the specified deadlines.
