KARACHI: Two more children have died from rabies at Indus Hospital Karachi, taking the total number of reported rabies-related deaths in Sindh to 37.
According to hospital officials, a six-year-old girl, Abia daughter of Nauman, died after developing rabies. She was a resident of Airport Road, Latifabad, Hyderabad district.
A four-year-old boy, Waqar son of Sultan, also died after being brought to Indus Hospital with rabies. He belonged to Razi Khan village in Dadu district.
Hospital officials said neither child had received rabies prevention vaccination following exposure.
According to available hospital figures, 28 rabies-related deaths have now been reported at Indus Hospital Karachi, while one death has been recorded at Indus Hospital Badin and eight at Jinnah Hospital Karachi.
The authorities further reported more than 14,000 dog-bite cases at Indus Hospital Karachi. Jinnah Hospital Karachi and Civil Hospital Karachi have each recorded around 11,000 dog-bite cases so far.
The latest deaths highlight the continuing public-health concerns surrounding dog bites and rabies prevention in Sindh.
