ISLAMABAD: Quaid-i-Azam University’s Syndicate has agreed in principle to establish a university hospital linked with its already approved medical college, while also approving the institution’s budget for the 2026–27 financial year.
The decisions were taken at the Syndicate’s 193rd meeting, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, as the university considered a range of academic, administrative and institutional development matters.
The Syndicate approved recommendations of the 110th meeting of the Finance and Planning Committee, including the university’s budget for 2026–27.
QAU Hospital Planned Alongside Medical College
In a key institutional development, the Syndicate endorsed in principle the establishment of a QAU Hospital in connection with the university’s approved medical college.
The proposed hospital may be developed through a public-private partnership or with support from philanthropists, according to the university.
The Syndicate also directed that a comprehensive plan be prepared covering the project’s development model, infrastructure needs, financing arrangements and relevant institutional and regulatory requirements.
The proposed hospital is intended to support medical education, clinical training, research and healthcare services while expanding the university’s academic and institutional capacity.
Affiliation of Eligible Institutes Also Considered
The Syndicate also recommended affiliation of eligible public and private institutes with Quaid-i-Azam University.
It authorized the university to process affiliation cases for approval by the Chancellor’s Office through the relevant line ministry.
The latest decisions mark a broader expansion of QAU’s academic and institutional footprint, particularly in medical education and healthcare infrastructure.
