A new assessment by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics and the Free and Fair Election Network has ranked public schools across Punjab using multiple education and infrastructure indicators, identifying several districts with persistent challenges.
The evaluation examined enrollment rates, examination results, availability of clean drinking water, electricity, and other essential facilities to measure overall school performance and education quality across the province.

Southern districts rank lowest
According to the report, Rahim Yar Khan placed among the bottom three districts in Punjab’s education rankings. The district also recorded one of the lowest literacy rates in the province, alongside Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.
The findings indicate gaps in both academic outcomes and access to basic facilities in these districts, pointing to structural challenges that continue to affect rural and underdeveloped regions.
Lahore shows improvement
In contrast, Lahore demonstrated measurable improvement in overall education performance. With education facilities and service availability reaching approximately 80 percent, the provincial capital secured the fifth position among Punjab districts.
Officials said the results reflect progress in major urban centers while highlighting the need for targeted reforms and resource allocation in lower-performing districts. The report underscores disparities in infrastructure and service delivery, suggesting that focused policy interventions may be required to improve education access and quality in vulnerable areas.
