LAHORE: A theatre in Punjab has been sealed following the circulation of a video on social media that reportedly shows a minor watching a dance performance at the venue.

Punjab Information and Culture Minister Uzma Bukhari directed authorities to take notice of the video, following which the concerned theatre was sealed and legal and administrative proceedings were initiated against its management.

Officials said further action was being taken in accordance with applicable rules and regulations governing theatrical performances in the province.

Theatre Faces Administrative Action

The incident comes amid increased monitoring of commercial theatres in Punjab over alleged violations of government policies, the Punjab Drama Act and prescribed standard operating procedures.

The Punjab Council of the Arts and the Information and Culture Department have recently initiated proceedings against theatre managements and performers over alleged violations during stage shows. Notices have included allegations concerning inappropriate performances, audience interaction and non-compliance with monitoring requirements.

Authorities have reiterated that theatre operators are required to comply with approved performance rules and monitoring procedures.

The latest action followed the circulation of the video involving the minor. Officials have not publicly disclosed the child’s identity, and the circumstances under which the child entered the venue have not been detailed in the available report.

Theatre management may face further administrative or legal action depending on the findings of the ongoing proceedings.
