LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Sikandar Hayat announced the decision to scrap the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook (PCTB) to restructure the education landscape of Punjab.
It also announced plans to merge four different educational institutions into one. This strategic improvement seeks to improve the governance of education and efficiency under the centralized leadership of the Prime Minister.
In an exclusive interview with private TV in Lahore, Hayat laid out a comprehensive reform plan, focusing on merging the education board, Punjab Education Commission and teacher training institute into one. He said that a division covering all the four sectors would be created under the leadership of the CM.
In addition, the curriculum design function will be integrated into this structured framework.
In the revised set-up, the Punjab Chief Minister will have direct control over the education department. The Minister said that individuals from the private sector will also join the post.
He further emphasized that teachers and stakeholders at all levels will be actively involved. He said the experience and insight of teachers will be taken into account before making the book.
In addition, Hayat stressed the importance of maintaining quality standards in teaching materials and said that the views of teachers and students will play a key role in evaluating and improving textbooks and test papers.
