LAHORE — The Punjab government has introduced a major initiative to address property disputes faced by overseas Pakistanis, approving the establishment of Special Courts under the Punjab Special Courts (Overseas Pakistani Property) Act 2025.
Speedy Justice for Overseas Citizens
The move, finalized in consultation with the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, is aimed at ensuring swift and transparent justice in property‑related cases. According to an official notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD), district and additional district & sessions judges have been designated as special court judges across all 37 districts of Punjab.
These courts will specifically handle matters of property ownership, illegal possession, and land disputes, offering stronger legal protection for the assets of overseas Pakistanis.
Government’s Commitment to Overseas Pakistanis
Barrister Amjad Malik, Vice Chairperson of the Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab, welcomed the decision, describing it as a clear reflection of the provincial government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of overseas citizens. He noted that the initiative would not only accelerate pending property cases but also help curb land grabbing and encourage foreign investment in Punjab.
Malik emphasized that overseas Pakistanis remain a vital part of national development, and the government is determined to guarantee the full protection of their civic and legal rights.
Ordinance to Fast‑Track Land Dispute Cases
In a parallel development, the Punjab government has also approved a new ordinance designed to expedite land dispute resolutions. Under the Punjab Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Ordinance 2025, all land grab cases must be concluded within 90 days through a Dispute Resolution Committee.
This measure is intended to prevent property cases from dragging on for years, ensuring timely justice and reinforcing investor confidence in the province.
